To empower sales reps with a personal Sales Engineer on their calls, HeySam’s AI Sales Copilot needed infrastructure that could reliably capture and process valuable sales insights from real-time meeting data across Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams.
SOLUTION:
After three months of in-house development produced a functional but inadequate solution, HeySam partnered with Recall.ai to simplify meeting integrations across all major meeting apps so HeySam could avoid this complex engineering work and prioritize their customer experience.

“The problem we are trying to solve at HeySam is what if you could box the magic of a sales engineer into an AI assistant? Not to replace the sales engineer, but rather to augment them with the magic of an LLM that summarizes the essence of a customer question,” said Adil Aijaz, Founder and CEO of HeySam. “So if a salesperson didn’t know how to answer a customer, they could click Sam for a summary answer.”
Challenge: Analyze call data in real time across meeting platforms to seamlessly share technical insight
Built to augment sales engineers by automatically sharing their expertise on every sales meeting, HeySam’s platform depended on accurately listening to and understanding sales calls to train its AI. However, enabling this high quality listening across each video meeting app was a complex endeavor.
“How do you train Sam on a sales call? Not only that, but also to help somebody in the middle of a sales call, you have to join the sales call. And in the post-Covid world, practically 95% of them happen on Zoom, Google Meet, and Teams. So the problem we had to solve was how do you reliably join these calls across different platforms so you can train, shadow, and help sales reps or sales engineers.” Aijaz said.
But Aijaz and HeySam were up to the task. With a history of successfully founding and scaling software engineering companies like Split, Aijaz knew what it took to solve difficult AI problems and was confident his team could create this new infrastructure without adopting a third-party solution like Recall.ai.
“I was hell bent on not using Recall.ai because I had just got done building a company in engineering infrastructure, and I knew that requires a level of quality, a level of maniacal focus that few have,” said Aijaz. “So when my team brought Recall.ai to me, I was like, ‘Great product. Would love to use it, but I cannot make this decision.’”

The HeySam team decided to engineer the cross-platform meeting integrations they needed internally. But while they were able to develop a solution that met some of their needs, Aijaz knew key capabilities were still out of reach—and that building meeting integrations was not a good use of his engineers’ time.
“At the end of three months, we could join a call. We could record the call. However, there was probably another six months of scalability work in front of us,” said Aijaz. “And at that point, one of my engineers just shook me and he was like, ‘What the hell are you doing?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, you guys are right. Let's just try out Recall.ai.’”

“We tried out Recall.ai and in one week, things were up and running. It was clear. I could spend another six months building and having an engineer work on this, or just say ‘Let’s go, Recall.ai’s here,’” said Aijaz.

Using Recall.ai’s API to capture call data like recordings, transcripts, speaker timelines, and metadata for their AI Sales Copliot platform, HeySam’s team could easily and reliably analyze live video calls on all the major meeting platforms.
“The magic of Sam, where people’s jaws drop, is where I do a live call with them and they ask a long question. As they finish up, their question pops up on the screen summarized into the essence of what they’re asking,” said Aijaz. “All of this is the magic of Recall.ai, which became extremely important to reliably joining calls across platforms.”
