UpdateAI is an AI-powered notetaker designed for B2B SaaS customer conversations. The tool captures notes from your meetings, translates them into categorized insights, creates personalized follow up emails, and more.
Challenge: Complex technology draining time and money
UpdateAI offers a note-taking and information entry tool designed to streamline insights from team interactions with customers. At first, UpdateAI focused solely on capturing Zoom calls by integration with Zoom Cloud Recording.
Josh Schachter, founder and CEO of UpdateAI, realized that by focusing exclusively on Zoom, the company was missing out on a significant number of potential customers who used other platforms like Google Meet and Microsoft Teams. Zoom was only a small piece of the pie when it came to how customers were hosting meetings.
Their integration with Zoom was through Zoom Cloud Recordings, which only worked when users were both 1) the meeting host and 2) on a paid Zoom plan.
But UpdateAI needed a way to record on Zoom without these constraints. They also wanted to integrate across other platforms — so they needed to build their own meeting bot.
They expanded their team and started building a meeting bot that could record meetings on Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. Josh shed some light on the difficulties of the initiative:
“It was so hard to build a bot that worked well, that could capture thousands of different edge and corner cases. Even just acquiring talent that had the talent and experience to do that was difficult.”
It didn’t take long before Josh realized the UpdateAI team needed a new plan. He estimated that, even if they finished building the bot, they’d have to devote an entire full-time person to just maintaining that infrastructure.
